I will be adding more videos to my list as I include more videos to my library.

| Yoga Mind & Body with Ali McGraw | |
| I think this video is much too advanced for a beginner and would only recommend it to an intermediate or advanced yoga practitioner. It is 50 minutes long. | |
| Priscilla's Yoga Maintenance Routine with Priscilla Patrick | |
| This is a good, complete 30-minute yoga workout. It is a little more advanced than for beginners. Priscilla has a lot of yoga videos for all different levels. Check out her web site. | |
| Take a Break: Lesson 1 for Beginners with Priscilla Patrick | |
| Very good, award winning video for beginners. It is about 40 minutes long. Priscilla has a lot of yoga videos for all different levels. Check out her web site. | |
| Total Yoga with Tracey Rich and Ganga White | |
| This video is a more advanced yoga routine for someone who wants a faster paced, more strenuous workout. I don't think it is very good for beginners. It is 65 minutes long. | |
Beth Shaw's YogaFit Workout
| |
| This video contains a 40 minute yoga routine that combines cardiovascular exercise with strength and flexibility-building yoga poses to create a total body workout. It is a very good video for someone looking for a more energetic, power-yoga style routine. It is the same set of poses as the YogaFit Classic workout illustrated in her book "Beth Shaw's YogaFit". There also are instructions to help modify the program for beginners. It can be purchased at Beth Shaw's web site. | |
| New Yoga Basics with Kathy Smith | |
| This is a good video, about 50 minutes long. It is a complete yoga workout and includes very good basic instructions for yoga practice. Most of the postures are easy enough for beginners but some are more challenging. | |
| New Yoga with Kathy Smith & Rod Stryker | |
| This video is too advanced and difficult for a beginner. It is more for the intermediate level. I like Kathy Smith's "New Yoga Basics" video better. This video is 55 minutes long. | |
| Pure & Simple Stretch with Karen Voight | |
| This is a good 35-minute stretching video. Karen seems a bit uncomfortable in front of the camera during most of the program, though, which did bother me. I prefer Denise Austin's stretching tape over this one. | |
| Yoga Journal: Yoga for Beginners | |
| Very good basic instructions for beginners. It is 75 minutes long, though, which makes it hard to find the time to do the complete video at one time. | |
| Yoga Journal: Yoga for Flexibility | |
| This video contains two 30-minute routines. It is more advanced than for beginners, though. Patricia Walden, the instructor, is very flexible; and I find it hard to do a lot of the postures she does. | |
| Yoga Journal: Yoga for Relaxation | |
| This video contains two 30-minute practice sessions of relaxation poses to restore the body and mind. The first session is lead by Patricia Walden and emphasizes restorative backbends to open and soften the body. Your body is supported by props, such as folded blankets, bolsters, and a wall. The second session is done by Rodney Yee and focuses on supported forward bends to calm nerves and quiet the mind. For this session you need a blanket or pillow and a chair. This video is very nice and relaxing but does require quite a few props. | |
| Yoga Journal: Yoga Introduction Beginner's Practice | |
| This is a good yoga video for those new to yoga. The video begins with an explanation of the spirituality of yoga. Then the yoga routine starts with centering the mind which is a warm up and preparation for the more active section that follows which contains many basic standing and floor postures. Last is a very thorough relaxation section. The instructions are clear and complete but a little confusing at times if you try to watch the instructor who is moving in the opposite direction as the viewer is instructed to move. I also thought there was too much reliance on the use of props which included a yoga mat, a strap, a bolster, a blanket, and yoga blocks. The tape is 70 minutes long. | |
| Yoga Journal: Yoga Practice for Meditation | |
| This 50-minute video is lead by Rodney Yee and is set in beautiful and serene Yosemite National Park. It includes five different sessions that can be done together or separately and is aimed at preparing the individual for meditation by offering practice in breath awareness, posture, position, and flexibility to assume meditative poses. The final session is a seated guided meditation. This video is very relaxing and is a very good introduction to meditation. | |
Yoga Zone: Conditioning and Stress Release for Beginners
| |
| This is also an excellent video for beginners and another of my favorites. In fact I like all of the Yoga Zone videos. The instructions are very good. The mirror image cuing makes the directions easy to follow. I like the way that deep breathing is integrated into every pose; and every pose is held for several breaths which aids in relaxing into the posture. I especially like the neck, shoulder and hip release poses as these are areas that I hold alot of stress and tightness. I also like the wrist conditioning and strengthener pose. I highly recommend this video. The tape is about 55 minutes long, though, and therefore I don't have the time to do it as often as I'd like to. | |
| Yoga Zone: Evening Stress Release For Beginners | |
| This video contains two complete 20-minute sessions which can be done separately or combined into one workout. The first session centers on identifying the areas where stress collects in your body and finding out how to integrate breathing and movement to relax it away. The second stresses using the breath to relax into a pose and taking this breathing technique out into your world to help you handle life's problems. The instructions are very good. I like the way it connects the breath with the movements and I also like the mirror image cuing which makes it easier to follow the demonstration. Some of the poses are fairly strenuous but modifications are shown for beginners. I think this video is more of a stress release workout than an evening relaxation workout that the title might imply. The sessions on this video are taken from the "Yoga Zone" TV show but without the commercials. | |
Yoga Zone: Flexibility and Tone for Beginners
| |
| This is another in the Yoga Zone series and is a really good video. It is a little more intense than the other videos. The poses are designed to increase flexibility in the hamstrings, shoulders, back, and hips. Some of the poses also call upon your strength to build muscle tone in the abdomen, legs and buttocks. It has a very nice muscle relaxing segment at the end. As with all the Yoga Zone videos it is great at incorporating breathing with the postures. I highly recommend this video. It is about 55 minutes long, though, and therefore I don't have the time to do this tape as often as I'd like to. | |
| Yoga Zone: Introduction to Power Yoga For Beginners | |
| This video contains two complete 20-minute sessions which can be done separately or combined into one workout. The first session is an introduction to power yoga which is designed to build heat in the body and to tone and strengthen. The second is a flowing sequence of poses to increase flexibility and build strength. The instructions are very good. I like the way it connects the breath with the movements and I also like the mirror image cuing which makes it easier to follow the demonstration. This video would be good for anyone new to power yoga who is looking for beginning instruction and only has a short time to devote to a yoga practice but is not really for someone new to yoga altogether. The sessions on this video are taken from the "Yoga Zone" TV show but without the commercials. There is also a DVD version that features direct access to either routine, 9 separate segments that allow you to create a personalized routine and an audio-only option. | |
Yoga Zone: Introduction to Yoga
| |
| This is an excellent video for beginners and one of my favorites. The instructions are very good. The mirror image cuing makes the directions easy to follow without having to decide if you are going to do as the demonstrators do or as the instructor says. I also like the way that deep breathing is integrated into every pose; and every pose is held for several breaths which aids in relaxing into the posture. I highly recommend this video. It is about 55 minutes long, though, and therefore I don't have the time to do it as often as I'd like to. | |
Yoga Zone: Meditation for Beginners
| |
| This is an excellent video. It is split into two 25-minute meditation segments. Each starts with about 10 minutes of limbering yoga postures and breathing exercises to prepare you for the meditation. The first segment is a more basic meditation session and the second is called "chakra meditation" and involves focusing on each of the body chakras, or energy centers in the spine. I highly recommend this video. | |
| Yoga Zone: Power Yoga for Strength & Endurance | |
| This is an extremely challenging 55-minute video which is more suited for an intermediate or advanced yoga practitioner than for a beginner. It moves quickly through the poses without much introductory instruction so it is important to be familiar with all the poses before doing the workout. The first 30 minutes is a flowing sequence of poses similar to the Sun Salutation. The next 20 minutes is a fairly difficult sequence of balancing poses. The workout ends with some hip-openers, abdominal poses and a rewarding relaxation. There is no warm up at the beginning so it is a good idea to do your own warm up first. I would recommend Yoga Zone's "Yoga for Weight Loss for Beginners" or Living Arts "Power Yoga for Beginners" with Rodney Yee if you would like to progress to a power yoga workout. | |
| Yoga Zone: Stretching For Flexibility | |
| This video contains two complete 20-minute sessions which can be done separately or combined into one workout. The first session will ease tight limbs and loosen muscles that are stiff due to exertion or maturity. The second introduces the principle of opposition to increase flexibility and ease tension. The instructions are very good. I like the way it connects the breath with the movements and I also like the mirror image cuing which makes it easier to follow the demonstration. This video would be good for anyone who desires greater flexibility and range of motion and only has a short time to devote to a yoga practice. The sessions on this video are taken from the "Yoga Zone" TV show but without the commercials. There is also a DVD version that features 4 separate chapters that allow you to create a personalized routine and an audio-only option. | |
| Yoga Zone: Total Body Conditioning For Beginners | |
| This video contains two complete 20-minute sessions which can be done separately or combined into one workout. The first session is designed to improve posture and build core strength to improve breathing. The second emphasizes not pressuring yourself to be perfect and easing and relaxing into the poses by using your breath. The instructions are very good. I like the way it connects the breath with the movements and I also like the mirror image cuing which makes it easier to follow the demonstration. This video would be good for anyone new to yoga who is looking for beginning instruction and only has a short time to devote to a yoga practice. But I did find one mistake -- in the second session they do a series of lunge poses on only one side so it would be a good idea to pause or rewind the tape to do the second side to balance both sides of the body. The sessions on this video are taken from the "Yoga Zone" TV show but without the commercials. There is also a DVD version that features direct access to either routine, 9 separate segments that allow you to create a personalized routine and an audio-only option. | |
| Yoga Zone: Yoga Basics for Beginners | |
| This video contains two complete 20-minute sessions which can be done separately or combined into one workout. The first session is an introduction to yoga basics and begins with instructions in a yogic breathing technique called Ujjayi breathing and then introduces several basic yoga poses. The second is a routine that focuses on linking the breath to the poses and encourages breath and body awareness while performing the poses. The instructions are very good. I like the way it connects the breath with the movements and I also like the mirror image cuing which makes it easier to follow the demonstration. This video would be good for anyone new to yoga who is looking for beginning instruction and only has a short time to devote to a yoga practice. The video does not really begin with much of a warm up and so it would be good to do some gentle warm up stretches before doing either of these workouts. The sessions on this video are taken from the "Yoga Zone" TV show but without the commercials. | |
| Yoga Zone: Yoga for Abs For Beginners | |
| This video contains two complete 20-minute sessions which can be done separately or combined into one workout. The first session is designed to tone and build power in the abs. The second contains additional poses to strengthen the mid section and the lower back. The instructions are very good. I like the way it connects the breath with the movements and I also like the mirror image cuing which makes it easier to follow the demonstration. This video would be good for anyone who is looking to tone and strengthen the midsection and only has a short time to devote to a yoga practice. Some of the poses are more advanced but there is always an alternative shown. The sessions on this video are taken from the "Yoga Zone" TV show but without the commercials. There is also a DVD version that features direct access to either routine, 9 separate segments that allow you to create a personalized routine and an audio-only option. | |
| Yoga Zone: Yoga for a Strong Healthy Back | |
| This video contains two complete 20-minute sessions which can be done separately or combined into one workout. The first session strengthens and stretches the back by combining forward bends, back bends, side bends and twists. The second will help to ease tension in the spine with undulating movements coordinated with the breath. The instructions are very good. I like the way it connects the breath with the movements and I also like the mirror image cuing which makes it easier to follow the demonstration. This video would be good for anyone who is interested in strengthening and easing tension in their back and only has a short time to devote to a yoga practice. Some of the poses are more advanced but there is always an alternative shown. The sessions on this video are taken from the "Yoga Zone" TV show but without the commercials. There is also a DVD version that features direct access to either routine, 8 separate segments that allow you to create a personalized routine and an audio-only option. | |
Yoga Zone: Yoga for Weight Loss for Beginners
| |
| This is a very good video but a bit more advanced than a beginner level. It is a 30-minute, power-yoga style workout of flowing postures designed to tone and energize and to create heat in the body to burn calories and help lose weight. The instructions are very good. The mirror image cuing makes the directions easy to follow. I also like the way that breathing is integrated into every pose. The workout begins with a good explanation of the special breathing technique used during the workout to help create heat in the body. It concludes with a very nice self-affirming, visualization meditation and relaxation. There is a special 20-minute bonus session which is designed to condition, strengthen and lengthen the back using some of the same poses as the first session. | |
| Yoga Zone: Yoga Sculpting | |
| This video contains two complete 20-minute sessions which can be done separately or combined into one workout. The first session targets the upper body. The second targets the lower body. The instructions are very good. I like the way it connects the breath with the movements and I also like the mirror image cuing which makes it easier to follow the demonstration. This video would be good for anyone who wants to tone and strengthen their whole body and only has a short time to devote to a yoga practice. Some of the poses are more advanced but there is always an alternative shown. The sessions on this video are taken from the "Yoga Zone" TV show but without the commercials. There is also a DVD version that features direct access to either routine, 8 separate segments that allow you to create a personalized routine and an audio-only option. | |
